Plot Summary
After Baron's wife leaves him because of his violent abuse, he decides to drive across the United States in his old Mustang. In the desert of Nevada, the Mustang breaks down and Baron meets Napperstick, a young man studying the I-Ching. Napperstick joins Baron for the road trip. As a ploy to get some money, Baron and Napperstick decide to kidnap a young boy from a mansion in Idaho. Bound and gagged in the trunk of the Mustang, Baron and Napperstick drive all the way to Louisiana hoping to hear about a ransom payment. When they hear nothing, Baron wants to shoot the boy and leave, but Napperstick suggests they let the I-Ching decide. The boy's prophecy mentions wind, which, according to Napperstick, is powerful and untouchable. Baron still isn't satisfied with Napperstick's faith in the I-Ching and demands Napperstick play Russian Roulette with the child. Baron hands Napperstick the gun which, unbeknownst to Napperstick, is unloaded. Napperstick points the gun at the boy and pulls the trigger, but when no bullet leaves the chamber, Napperstick takes it as another sign from the I-Ching. Baron shows Napperstick the empty chamber. The two leave the boy alone in the motel room.
