When a melancholic blues singer gets his big break, he discovers that his success as a musician is mutually exclusive with his happiness as a human being.

After their band breaks up, a woman and her boyfriend take up an itinerant lifestyle in Idaho. As she wanders through the wilderness and the small farming town, a sense of the inevitable, of the unspeakable, begins to dawn on her: She contemplates murdering her own baby.

Unable to sleep, a famous musician watches television and consults his friends and family in the middle of the night as a mystery torments him: who is the man calling his girlfriend and spreading lies about him, and what does he want?
