Mahra, a hunter, and Elu, an astronomer and spell-caster, leave their tiny village in search of Behru, where Elu hopes to become the chief astronomer. During their dangerous journey, they are plagued by self-doubt, stalked by demons, visited by a goddess, and forced to fend off an attack. At last, they reach Behru, where they start new lives; the story ends with Mahra and Elu as old women, recounting their adventures to their grand-children and basking in the lives they've built.
