Plot Summary
Phyllis Slabbert owns a veterinary practice with her husband, Dan. Soon, Dan starts accepting bribes to dope equine patients and even devises a plan to kill his wife. When Phyllis finds out, she kills him instead, flees, and changes her name. However, a Greek woman named Madame Dioskilos contacts the woman, saying that she knows her true identity. Madame runs a secluded all-girls private school, where she has trained some of the most powerful women in the country. At the school, the girls have the unique experience of receiving horse riding lessons from Madame on her Grecian centaurs. These mute, sexually violent beasts, according to Madame, are representative of all men. Madame promises to keep Phyllis' identity a secret, as long as she agrees to treat her centaurs. One night, Madame calls Phyllis with an emergency. She heads to the school with her adopted son, Tonio. When she enters the stable, she finds that one of the creatures, Actaeon, has raped a young student named Trista. Madame reveals that this isn’t the only time this has happened—the centaurs often break out of their chastity belts, and only the most cunning girls avoid their brutality. Trista didn’t make the cut, so Madame asks Phyllis to dispose of her in the woods and clean up Actaeon. Phyllis is disgusted at Madame’s cruelty. Just then, another student enters and exclaims that Tonio is outside. Madame is furious that Phyllis adopted a boy. Phyllis asks him to come in, hoping that his sweet demeanor will convince Madame of his worth. Instead, she stabs him. Phyllis tries to block the blow, and all three of them get cut. Lured by the scent of blood, the centaurs break free from their shackles and maul Madame. Phyllis manages to get away with Tonio and the girls. When she returns to the school in the morning, the centaurs are gone. She finds Madame’s severed head. Upon close inspection, Phyllis realizes that she has horse teeth. She burns down the stables and the school and prays for Madame’s soul.
