Plot Summary
A group of farmers notices that their ranch has been broken into by someone or something that likes to eat their grain. One night, a man decides to keep watch to see who it might be; it turns out the intruder is a skeletal horse. The next morning, the men resolve to kill the horse, despite feeling wary of doing so. After stalling, one of the men shoots the horse in the head. They leave, expecting the horse to be dead. However, the horse shows up again the next day, head wounded but still hungry. Feeling remorse at their attempt to murder it, the men spend the next three days trying to nurse it back to help as penance. Unfortunately, the horse dies on the fourth day. They feel lonely in its absence. They decide to take down the fence that once separated them from the horse.
