Following the death of his wife, Mr. Grierson finds a photo album with pictures of the couple’s young son, who had disappeared years ago. Every year, Mr. Grierson’s wife, Emily, received a picture in the mail that had been created by age progression software, showing how their son would look in the current year. Mr. Grierson calls the manufacturer of the software, but he gets nothing more than basic comments on the development of the technology. Afterward, the widow sits on the floor, reminiscing how he would always watch his son emerge from the sidewalk after school, how the boy’s body bobbing back and forth reminded him of a swaying rose.
