Dori is a bride-to-be, a preschool teacher, and the daughter of a pastor. Rena is an out-of-towner who met the groom, JT, five years ago. The two had met on their flight out of Ghana; JT had been on his way home from the Peace Corps, and Rena had been photographing refugee camps. There were issues with their flight, so Rena and JT spent time together in a small hotel. While they were there, Rena snapped a photograph of JT which would go on to make several best-of-the-year lists. Dori had phoned daily while they were stuck in Ghana, slightly threatened by Rena's presence. Despite Dori's worries, Rena and JT never slept together during that time in the hotel. Now, Dori and JT are getting married, and Rena has been invited. Rena leaves Dori's bachelorette party early and heads back to her hotel. She runs into Michael, one of JT's groomsmen, at the hotel bar. The two go back to Michael's room and have sex. Rena wakes up at 4 a.m. and slips out of Michael's room towards the stairs. She sees JT in the hallway with a duffel bag. He tells Rena that he cannot do this, that he's going out of town for a while. Rena returns to her room. In the morning, several of the bridesmaids find her to inform her JT is gone. They scan the room to make sure he is not there with Rena. Rena tells Dori that she ran into JT before he left and she knows where he went. Dori and Rena get in the car together and head for Ohio, a three-hour drive from their hotel in Indiana. The women talk in the car and eventually stop to get breakfast at McDonald's. When they get back in the car, Rena confesses that she does not know where JT is. Dori is angry and begins to drive back to their hotel. She pulls off suddenly at Waterworld, and the women buy swimsuits and head up to the top of a water slide. After the slide, they see texts from Michael and JT, saying that the wedding is back on. Dori and Rena stash their phones and head to the wave pool.
