Plot Summary
Emmy, a young girl, has a secret tiger that she cuts herself open and feeds her “badness” to. A girl named Jessica bullies Emmy at school, causing the “badness” to bubble up inside of her. Her religious mother always tells her not to fight back and various religious phrases about being kind to the girls harassing her. After swimming at school, the girls make her change in a separate room, calling her gay slurs. She rips her belly open for the tiger after school to release her anger and shame. One of Jessica’s friends, Hayley, brings Emmy her lunch after Emmy runs away from Jessica’s harassment. That day, Emmy does not need to feed the tiger. Emmy writes Hayley in her notebook. Jessica takes the notebook and sees Hayley’s name, mocking Emmy for liking Hayley. Emmy feeds the tiger after school with the pain she experienced. His religious upbringing causes negative thoughts in Emmy. Hayley invites Emmy to hang out, which keeps Emmy from feeding the tiger. Emmy and Hayley go to the park where the tiger lives. They play truth or dare, and Hayley dares Emmy to kiss her cheek. Jessica takes a picture, and it turns out that Emmy was set up. Emmy runs to the tiger and releases a cold rage which she consumes instead of the tiger.
