Plot Summary
When Robert Hurley's wife dies after battling a sickness, Hurley decides to leave his home. He plans to stay with an old couple called the Pedersons, who live in Connecticut. He tells his children that he will return in a couple of weeks. Throughout his stay with the Pedersons, Hurley tries to overcome his sadness about the loss of his wife. He first tries archery and demonstrates to the elderly couple that he is proficient in the sport. Mr. Pederson takes Hurley hunting. There, Hurley shoots and kills a deer. As he inspects the deer, he observes the beauty of nature, the ducks, and the leaves. Feelings of sadness arise about the death of his wife before Hurley finds calmness being among the wildlife.
