Plot Summary
A racially ambiguous bounty hunter named O’Connor roams the deserts of Texas and Mexico, killing bad men. He tells the story of when he used to travel with Mister Hadj, a strange non-Christian man that his father introduced him to. Mister Hadj is wise and older than O’Connor. They’re looking for an ex-preacher who started a gang named Parson Lucifer. Finally, they find Parson Lucifer. O’Connor wants to attack him right then and there, but Hadj tells him to wait. Being young, O’Connor doesn’t listen. He goes to shoot the men, but the boy that he shot several times, instead of being dead, turns around to look him in the eye: a clear sign of magic. O’Connor is captured by the parson, but Mister Hadj uses his secret magic powers to get O’Connor out of trouble. The parson’s men are disarmed and killed, but Hadj is killed in the resultant gunfire. They part ways, and O’Connor goes on his way, alone.
