Iason, a trader from the land of Eutopia travels among multiple parallel universes, criticizing their barbaric values. In one universe, set in Western Europe, he was welcomed as a guest in a Lawman's home, but he finds himself fleeing from Vikings for having violated one of these values. He faces a dangerous journey in an effort to escape bloodhounds and warriors who want to punish him with death. However, he is determined to make it home to Niki, the love of his life, and if that's not possible he wants to at least die as a "civilized man". Against all odds, Iason returns to his precious homeland Eutopia, a land that has been made out to be a flawless empire that has perfected civilization. Upon his return, it is revealed that Iason's trangression was seducing and sleeping with the young son of the Lawman who welcomed him into his home. Iason continues to criticize the "barbaric values" of these parallel universes, but is simply told that some cultures view civilization differently. This leads to the revelation that Niki is a nickname for Nikias Demostheneou, the young boy who Iason is in love with and was determined to make it home to.
