A woman in her thirties is on her way to an AA meeting when a man approaches her. The man reveals that he is a coke addict, the same drug that the woman was addicted to until five months ago. The man, Lenny, tries to convince the woman to go on a date with him, but she refuses.
The woman runs into Lenny again, and he mentions that he has followed her for about two weeks, a skill that he learned while he served in the Vietnam War. After a great deal of convincing, the woman finally agrees to join Lenny on his motorcycle about a week after their first meeting.
The two begin to see each other regularly for several months, and Lenny shows off his motorcycle, red Ferrari, and expensive watch, among other luxurious items. After a while, Lenny asks the woman to sleep with him. The woman refuses and insists that he get tested for AIDS because of his frequent drug use. The two don't end up sleeping together, but he does convince her to smoke a cigarette with him, which she hasn't done since she got sober.
A while later, Lenny takes the woman to swim in Bel Air. While in a shadowy part of the pool, she imagines many blue particles infecting her skin. Later, she allows Lenny to kiss her.
A few days pass, and Lenny shows up at the woman's house, although she has asked him not to meet her there. Lenny explains that he is in trouble and needs to disappear. Lenny asks the woman to come with him, but she refuses and reminds him that she has a young daughter. When Lenny leaves, the woman drinks a bottle of alcohol alone and imagines blue pieces of glass flying toward her through the air.
