The protagonist and the friend used to trade letters as they traveled through the world; now, travel is impossible because a vague apocalypse led to the destruction of the planet’s various towers. The protagonist spends his days alone, walking through the island with his greyhound, translating Greek tragedies, and writing to his friend. He wonders if he’ll ever get to speak to his friend again.
