In the far future, a woman in Nuyorc City listens to one of her favorite blues musicians and covets his husky voice, thinking back to the time she had one too. She had her Great Becoming ten years ago when it was decided that she would have to make a choice. Before her Becoming, the woman’s first and only friend was Jason. They became lovers after meeting in the city, but he remained detached and distant at times. When she happily told him about her becoming, he informed her that it was not such a great thing to have to choose. There were people like him who did not need to make a choice. She chose the saxophone, an instrument she loved, and consequently became one. Now she blows her horn for those who do not have to choose like she did.
