Plot Summary
Wes and Corinne are married and live in a small town in Minnesota with their infant son, Jeremy. Corinne is unhappy with the marriage, as she thinks Wes drinks too much and is inattentive to her needs. Corinne's friend and neighbor, Astrid, convinces Corinne to leave Wes. One day, Corinne abandons Wes and Jeremy without turning back. Over time, Wes and Astrid fall in love and get married. They have a daughter together, named Lucy. One day, when Jeremy is 17 years-old, Corinne sends a postcard to Wes, saying she will be in town and asks him to pick her up from the bus station. Wes does so without telling his family, thinking it will be a quick reunion, but Corinne reveals that she is homeless and expects to stay at his home for an unknown amount of time. He agrees to let her stay, angering Astrid and Jeremy. Eventually, Jeremy forgives his mother. and helps her begin a blog called Runaway Mom, which becomes popular. Corinne gets a one-bedroom across town, and occasionally they all get together for dinner.
