Plot Summary
A man introduces Sahai as one of the most recent guests at Auntie's boardinghouse. Along with himself, a mathematician, an artist named Meena, a planet geologist named Kunaal, and a sociologist named Dave also board there. Meena and Kunaal get into an argument about physics and mathematical theory. Sahai interrupts their argument to tell his story of the 2031 expedition to Mars, where he encounters an alien-like creature and follows it. He ends up in a futuristic space where he doesn't even have to wear his space suit, and there are technologies more advanced than he has ever seen before. He discovers that these creatures have been the cause of the anomalies that he and his fellow researchers had seen on Mars. He realizes that the creatures feed off the energy field and cause leakages between universes. He believes that he must have fallen asleep, and he begins to see visions of strange insects who reassure him that he will be alright. He finds a way out of the enclosure, and radios for help from his teammates, who find and bring him back to camp. The anomalies no longer occur, and Sahai believes that it must have been the insect-creatures who restored balance to the universe. Sahai's concludes his story, and explains that no one, not even his teammates, ever believed his tale. He leaves his listeners with the foreboding point that the anomalies have once again begun to appear.
