An unnamed Puerto Rican parrot cannot understand why humans have built the Arecibo Observatory to try to communicate with extraterrestrials when parrots would provide humans with the non-human forms of communication they seek.
The Puerto Rican parrot remembers Alex the parrot's last words to Dr. Irene Pepperberg, remarks on how parrots have learning capabilities that differentiate them from all other non-human life on Earth, and mourns the inevitable loss of parrots caused by humans' carelessness.
The parrot admits that his hope, that humans will become more aware of what they have, is likely a doomed one, but he still offers words of love in the face of ignorance: "You be good. I love you."
