When a country boy walks into her shop and asks her to marry him, Annie thinks that she couldn’t be any luckier; a sweet, handsome man who owns his own land and even a car. But when she arrives on his farm, she begins to notice a pattern of anger and violence represented by a scar on the foreheads of the men that seem to have killed other women in the family. Her husband flies into dangerous rages that threaten the safety of the animals, the other people living on the farm, and even Annie herself. When her husband’s impulsive decision not to harvest the year’s crop threatens not only their livelihood but the future of their unborn baby, Annie takes matters into her own hands to end his rage once and for all. She decides to cut the wheat even if it kills her, which it very nearly does, until her husband finally gets over his anger and finishes the job himself.
