Plot Summary
A couple, Al and a woman spot a boat a mile away. Due to thick fog, they can't tell what type of boat it is, but the couple becomes obsessed with the mystery boat. Al wonders if they can swim to the ship, but the two realize that the water is too cold. Unable to do anything else, they go to a restaurant and ask a server about the boat. The server says he's never seen the ship. However, when the couple leaves the restaurant, they spot the boat still parked a mile away. The following day the ship is still there, but the fog has thickened. They ask a guy with a rowboat about the mysterious boat. The man tells them its a gambling boat, which causes Al to get angry. The woman manages to move Al away, and Al says he was so mad that he was ready to punch the man. The woman asks Al to go dancing with her and her girlfriends. However, Al rejects the offer, too preoccupied with the boat. The next day, the fog has lifted, and they can see the ship. Excited, the woman tells Al to rent a water taxi to see the boat. Al instead spots a ferry at the dock filled with people. He believes the ferry will take people to the mystery boat. The couple approaches the ferry and asks a drunk man on the ferry where the mystery boat is going. The drunk man doesn't know, only saying that the ship will go "way out to shee." The woman tells Al to rent a rowboat so they can row to the boat, but Al says it's too cold. Dejected, Al gives up and gets a taxi. In the cab, he tells the woman that the ferry wasn't going to the ship. Al then says he would love to go out with the woman's girlfriends.
