A young unhoused couple, Benji and Sarah, are washing cars for money at a fair. One car of men says something dirty to Sarah and Benji confronts them and one of the men hits him below the eye with a metal lock, shattering a bone in his face. They sit together, icing it. Sarah is upset this has ruined their possibility to get a job with the fair.

Benji ran away from home, where his cousins were all addicted to meth, to get sober. Sarah has a warrant out for her arrest after not appearing in court after shoplifting food for her friend's dog. The two met one day in Atlanta, when she asked him to bum a cigarette. She declined his invitation to travel with him and they parted ways only to meet later, in South Carolina. Benji, looking for a friend, approached a fire with some people around it to find Sarah slumped against another boy, looking incapacitated and like she didn't want to be there. When the other boy led Sarah away into the woods, Benji called out, asking her if she wanted to come with him, and she did. They found a model home with a disabled alarm and spent the night there. She was sick. She washed their clothes in the morning, and he fell in love.

At the fair, some boy scouts approach him and offer money--$80, he negotiates--to see Sarah's boobs. Sarah is unhappy but knows how much money that is to them. She agrees on the condition that Benji doesn't come. They go to some stables and they give her the money and she shows them her boobs. Then, she strips and pees in front of them. One runs away, then the others. Then, she walks through the stables and dresses herself in a clean stall where she settles and hides, not responding to Benji when he comes looking for her. Benji looks for her all day and then when the fair closes waits outside the gate asking every passerby if they've seen her.
