A man and his partner, Gayle, get to their cottage in the middle of the woods. They are renting it from a friend, Janice, so that Gayle can work on her photography in a small town a mile away. They settle in and the man tries to spark romance with Gayle, who is absorbed in her work. He reminisces on the fact that he has cheated on Gayle and gotten caught, but the two stayed together.
The next morning, the man is a little hungover, and the two remark how quiet the woods are at night. They go to the town to take pictures of the local scenery, first going to an ancient church and graveyard. Next, they go to the beach which is surrounded by cliffs and they think they see a group of people out in the fog. The man seems to be possessed by a random voice and the two leave, shaken.
They get food from the pub and then return to their cottage and make love one last time. They return to the beach at dusk and Gayle begins to take pictures of the haunting scenery. They begin to find miscellaneous items all around the beach and then once again see a group of people in the distance. The man speaks again with a voice that is not his and he tries to reach Gayle before they are both enveloped in the dark.
