Plot Summary
When a hurricane hits, a woman barricades herself in her home. First she sees her neighbor's car destroyed, and recalls hearing how his dog was the only survivor in the wreck. Her husband visits the house and scolds the woman for drinking; she recalls how he had left her and died soon after with his new mistress. Her old boyfriend also visits, crashing through the window. She recalls hearing about his suicide through friends and the irony of how she had left him because he had been too happy and carefree. Finally, her father visits, his body boney and sack-like, eaten away by cancer while she was kissing girls at Girl Scout Camp, unaware of his illness. Each visitor leaves before the next appears, and finally her father leaves as well. She moves to her bathroom, a safe room without windows, and locks herself in for safety from the storm. When the storm finally calms, she emerges and sees all the death and destruction caused in the wake of the hurricane.
