Plot Summary
The City of New York gives Tanisha Jean-Louis five hours to make the trek from her home in the Bronx to her dead aunt's apartment and take whatever she wants. 'Nisha, a young Black woman staying with her mom, recruits her on-again, off-again boyfriend Anhell to make the trip to Jamaica Bay with her. She arrives at his apartment just to catch him cheating again, but that day she hits him with less force than usual. They've had fights like this countless times, him always caught with some man or woman, and she's tired. He eats her out before they head off to her Aunt Esther's home.
Once they're in the apartment, which is littered with trash and superstitious items, 'Nisha hunts for anything worth an inheritance. Though she doesn't find any money, she discovers a hidden treasure chest, where an old leathered corpse, a shotgun, and a machete greet her and Anhell. The weapons pulse with dark magic and an offer from the Devil: take these and your lives will be transformed. Anhell takes the shotgun and 'Nisha, the machete. When two men from the City arrive to kick 'Nisha out, her five hours up, she responds by slicing one man in half. His blood and remains evaporate into thin air, and Anhell shoots the other man in the hallway until his corpse disappears, too.
The couple gets back in time for Anhell's visit with his caseworker the next morning. The two spend the day lounging, having sex, and itching with the pull of their weapons. That evening, Anhell tries to leave with the gun. 'Nisha tells him to drop it, and the two get into a fight that ends with 'Nisha calling him a "bitch ass faggot ass punk" and Anhell whispering that he hates her. He leaves the gun in the apartment and goes off to sleep with some other woman. She cries on the phone with a friend, then calls her mom, who's watching a Black Lives Matter documentary. When Anhell returns, they watch the news, the topic being on police brutality in America. Their romantic problems suddenly recede to the background as they realize who the targets of their newfound bloodlust should be.
The story then flips back-and-forth between 'Nisha and Anhell's gory, merciless massacre of the NYPD officers and them watching the news in the aftermath. Though the Devil made them kill some black and brown officers as well, only the white widows are present at the funeral, alongside President Trump and the mayor of New York. As they watch the white widows cry at the end of the funeral coverage, Anhell declares that "we ain't even done yet." They continue killing cops in New York until, bored by NYC's new martial law, 'Nisha asks her mom who the worst police departments in the U.S. are. The story ends with 'Nisha and Anhell westbound with only their backpacks and their weapons, ready to wreak havoc on the LAPD.
