Plot Summary
In the far future, humankind has colonized numerous planets. Mars is one of them, though there are not as many people on the planet. The people of Mars celebrate Christmas, but because of the length of the Martian day, it is Christmas Week instead. The tradition was to get wildly drunk and participate in other debauchery. Two men get together and reminisce about old Christmas traditions before they decide they want to revive Santa Claus in the Dutch tradition as Sinterklass and Zwarte Piet. They disseminate the legend of Sinterklass and Zwarte Piet throughout Mars, come up with costumes, acquire candy and medical supplies, and decide to visit each colony to bear gifts and tend to any health conditions. It is very popular, and the colonies adore Sinterklass and Zwarte Piet. On one of their trips, the two men also rescue a ship of refugees who landed in the middle of a dust storm, and they bring the Christmas spirit to them as well. They continue this tradition for a while, but the man playing Zwarte Piet retires. The man playing Sinterklass continues, visiting each colony with a different Zwarte Piet and spreading the Christmas spirit. In addition, each colony has created Sinterklass and Zwarte Piet costumes, and people in the colonies also play these characters to continue the tradition. However, one year, he heads into a dust storm and disappears. His friend muses that the mystery surrounding Sinterklass's disappearance adds to the legend of Sinterklass on Mars.
