One Sunday afternoon, Tom goes for a drive with his Uncle Jad and Aunt Effie. As they drive along, all of a sudden Uncle Jad hits a boy. The boy flies off the hood of the car and slams into a tree just a few feet away. Shocked and terrified, Uncle Jad picks up the boy, who introduces himself as Mort Simmons. They decide to take him to their local doctor, who finds nothing wrong with him except for some bruising. Uncle Jad drops Mort back at his home, and tells him that if he needs anything he should drop by the family store. Worried that Mort will sue him, Uncle Jad visits his lawyer, who warns him of that very possibility. The next morning, Mort comes to the store and buys some shirts, but tells Uncle Jad he will pay tomorrow. As promised, the day after, Mort and his whole family arrive at the store. To Uncle Jad's surprise, they all buy shirts and shoes and thank him for helping Mort.
