Kendra is biking in Philadelphia when she sees a truck carrying a forty-four thousand pound coil. This triggers a memory from when Kendra was sixteen and riding her father's truck. Her father, named Dude, is a trucker and musician currently carrying a forty-four thousand pound coil. It's not frequently that Kendra gets to see her father: he's often absent, playing the banjo somewhere. In this truck ride, they are hoping for some good father-daughter time.
Her father asks Kendra about Carla, the girl Kendra has been seeing on Friday afternoons to have sex. Kendra's parents know about it, and they have been trying to convince Kendra to stay away from her. Carla is self-destructive, anorexic, and spiraling, as the parents see it. It takes Kendra six years to finally move to Philadelphia and leave Carla behind.
Dude stops by a music venue, where Karla watches him play the banjo. Afterward, they continue their trucking journey. On an uphill climb, the coil rolls off the truck, denting the road.
