Plot Summary
Randall “Bax” Baxter is pulled over by a female cop. After aggressively searching him, the cop discreetly drops a burner cell phone in Bax's pocket and whispers that his code is "Brooklyn." Earlier that day, Randall is eating breakfast at a diner his girlfriend Venetta works in when his little brother Russell arrives with their crime boss, Mr. Kline. The three sit at a booth, and Mr. Kline tells Bax that Russell sold some property to a buyer in Tyler that already had a buyer from San Leon. Bax immediately knows that he and Russell will go into a lifetime of debt. Bax asks Mr. Kline to give him time to find a solution, and Mr. Kline warns Bax that both buyers expect delivery of the property within two days. Bax used to run a salvage yard for Mr. Kline. Venetta later expresses her disappointment that Bax is still involved with Mr. Kline. Bax explains that Russell got involved with organized crime while Bax was incarcerated, and he’s been trying to fix Russell's mistakes and relieve some of the debt. Bax realizes that the female cop intercepted him during his car ride on the way to the salvage yard after his talk with Kline. He had sent a message to a colleague on his burner phone after he left the diner. When he arrives at the yard, Bax sees a coded message in his new burner to meet at a laundromat. There, he meets with his colleague Detective Berberian and an FBI agent named Parker. Bax explains that the LAPD is working illegally with FN Herstal, a Belgian weapon manufacturing company, to acquire guns for cops. Kline obtained one of their shipping containers and is in the process of arranging a trade deal for it. He reveals the content of the container to Parker, and makes a deal with her to save Russell. After the meeting, Bax convinces Kline to have him lead the upcoming trade deal and move the product to a third-party location. Bax and his crew prepare for the dangerous trade, filling transport trucks with both empty crates and crates full of guns to trick the crews coming for the items, the Bandidos and the Cossacks. On the day of the trade, Kline sends his bodyguard Owsley to supervise Bax. Bax gives a gun with a laser sight to Russell and tells him to shoot Owsley if anything goes wrong. He also secretly sets up a message to send on his burner phone. The trucks of the Bandidos and Cossacks arrive for the deal and enter the warehouse from opposite loading bays. Bax sends the message on his burner once the trade is deemed successful. Then, chaos of gunfire commences as U.S. marshals immediately arrive. Russell shoots Owsley, and Bax calls Russell a traitor and pretends to shoot him while dragging him out to the FBI crew. He assures Russell he will start a new life and says goodbye. Afterward, Bax helps the wounded Owsley escape. The next day, Kline expresses gratitude for Bax’s loyalty in saving Owsley and killing Russell when he betrayed them. Bax reassures Kline that the FBI told the news the fight was between the two buyers, and he was able to keep one of the crates of the guns to help settle his debt. The following morning, Bax reveals to Venetta that he killed Russell’s dad because he got his mother into drugs and prostitution. Venetta understands that Bax served Russell's time in prison in his place. She tells Bax he can take her and her daughter out for lunch after Sunday service.
