A young man invites a tourist to his favorite London café and recounts the strangest affair he’d ever had with a woman he picked up there; a woman who challenged and changed him. A young, beguiling man picks a tourist out of a group and invites him to see the real sites of London, not the tired and disappointing spectacles. He takes the tourist to the Café de Paris, an old but grand establishment with the promise of dancing and young ladies. The man admonishes his companion to loosen up, stay and drink, and while they wait for the evening to unfold the man begins a story.

When an elderly Polish American man goes to get his curtains cleaned, he becomes enamored by the widow curtain cleaner and must build the courage to tell her about his feelings.

When a family finds a child in their yard buried in snow and suffering from frostbite, they try to warm him up to save his life. The child eventually awakes and tells them that his family is in danger, and so two men and a boy venture out to save their neighbors, if they can make it through the deep snow without freezing.

After he is kicked out of his house, a husband spends his days sleeping under a flowering pear tree in the front yard, his wife hatefully observing.
