Chinelo Okparanta is a Nigerian-American novelist and short story writer. Born in Nigeria and later educated at the Iowa Writers' Workshop, her short stories have appeared in publications including Granta, The New Yorker, Tin House, The Kenyon Review, The Southern Review, TriQuarterly, Conjunctions, Subtropics, and The Coffin Factory; her essays have appeared in AGNI, The Story Prize blog, and the University of Iowa, International Writing Program blog. Her debut novel, Under the Udala Trees, was released in 2015 and made several year-end lists. Throughout her career, she has been considered a champion for marginalized and underprivileged voices.
