A wealthy family moves into a mansion on an island and raises several generations there. As the years pass, different family members show how things have both changed and also stayed the same within the house.

A mother and her three boys are on a small Greek island, where they prepare to reunite with her husband. Before they leave, they attend a party, and spend time reflecting on the possibility that they may never see their missing loved one again.

After their son goes to bed, a husband and wife socialize with another couple on the Fourth of July. As the group smoke and dance, the wife watches her husband admire the other woman, and she worries that he will leave her.
