In present day, Sarah Ann is the only family member left to take care of her father. Throughout this story she breaks down to the audience the reason why that's the case. She describes her relationship with her sister, Olive, and how they were just alike but nothing like at all. Their mother passed when they were children, which creates an entirely new family dynamic. The two sisters end up on extremely different life paths, and they each have their own distinct characteristics. Olive is not as close with their father and Sarah Ann has always felt invisible as the younger sibling. This results in the two sisters interacting with love in unique ways, and leaves Sarah Ann as the caretaker of their father.
