Tong Tong's grandfather gets a robot care-taker called Au Fu who turns out to be controlled by a university student interning for a company who Tong Tong calls Uncle Wang. Uncle Wang begins to play chess with Grandpa through the Au Fu and quickly realizes he is no match for Grandpa. He discovers that one of Grandpa's elderly friends also has an Au Fu and has been complaining that his Au Fu cannot compete with his chess skills either. Uncle Wang helps to set up a system where Grandpa can control his friend's Au Fu so that he can play chess against his friend. Over time, the two elderly men begin socializing and caring for each other through their Au Fu.
One day, Grandpa's friend almost has a heart attack, and Grandpa is able to give him chest compressions and call for help through the Au Fu. Grandpa begins to learn basic medical skills to better care for his friend through the robot. Uncle Wang tells Tong Tong that Grandpa's use of the Au Fu could lead to huge medical advances, that doctors or volunteers could control Au Fu and sick people could be cared for from their own home.
All of a sudden, Grandpa has a brain tumor and he does not return home from the hospital. He has surgery, and afterwards is in a coma. His friend visits him through the Au Fu, and his family gets a new product from the company producing Au Fu: a teddy bear that will mimic Grandpa's heart beat and allow him to see through the bear's eyes. Grandpa can hear and see the family despite his coma, and Tong Tong can watch over Grandpa and tell stories to him through the bear. Tong Tong tells Grandpa through the bear a phrase that he had always told her meaning not to worry.
