Fiona, a young girl in an alternate universe, is what they call a "long-timer", somebody who won't meet their soulmate until the majority of her life has passed. She struggles to fill her time, hopping aimlessly from lover to lover, most with shorter clocks than she has.

One day, while sitting in class, the notices that her timer begins to accelerate. Suddenly, her soul-mate countdown lessens to 22 weeks, the summer of the same year. One day in a grocery store, Fiona's timer surprisingly goes off, and she meets a woman named Marianne. They don't speak long before a man pulls her away. In the darkness of a movie theater, the two reunite and Fiona must decide whether she believes in the soulmate system or not.
