A young woman named Amanda meets Joe on a trip to Jamaica. After two months of dating, they get married. Joe decides to take Amanda to his house to meet his parents. There, Joe's mom tells Amanda how accident-prone the family is. The mom explains how she broke her toe after tripping over a dog, and then tells a story about how in college Joe accidentally fired a loaded gun through a wall. Thankfully, there were no injuries. Later on, the mom reveals that Joe had been previously married to Rosemary. Rosemary mysteriously died after she became too exhausted from swimming in the water. Amanda is confused about why her husband never told her. Her anxiety increases when Joe asks her to go skating on a lake. The ice isn't extremely thick, but Joe convinces her to do the activity. Amanda slips into the water and almost freezes to death until Joe saves her. She wakes up back in the house and is met by the mother. She demands to know what is wrong with Joe, and the mom ignores her concerns. The mom then tells Amanda that Joe has painted the wall with gasoline. The two women freeze in horror as Joe enters the room.
