A little girl sits next to her ill grandmother and stares at her nose. The grandmother is on the verge of dying, something that the little girl has just learned about. With her newfound knowledge about death, the world has become different, but also more beautiful, to the little girl. Her grandmother tells her not to stare, but the little girl can’t help it: her nose is just so big and gray and strange. Her grandmother tells her that death will come for her soon, and she warns her not to look at things until it’s too late. Eventually, the girl leaves her grandmother to rest, and her mother comes home. She goes to sleep and thinks about how, one day, all of the events of the day will disappear, along with the memories of her grandmother.
