Plot Summary
The narrator imagines her lover were a dinosaur. Following this train of thought she imagines she were a zookeeper who sang him lullabies while he sang unrequited love songs. She imagines taking him to sing onstage at Broadway, where the audiences would weep. She imagines this causing an outpouring of funding into reviving extinct species, such that scientists would build a dinosaur mate for her lover. She would be best woman at the dinosaur wedding and would be sad and jealous but happy to know they had "made something new in the world and at the same time revived something very old." Then she imagines becoming a flower, in this world where magic makes anything possible. She circles back to the hypothetical of her lover being a dinosaur, in this world of magic, and imagines he could have fought off five men who attacked him and left him hospitalized and likely to die in real life, leaving her, a paleontologist's fiancé with her wedding half-planned. She imagines if he were a dinosaur, they would both be kept safe.
