Karyn, a twenty-six year-old woman goes out drinking with her three female friends on Mother's Day. All of the women's mothers have passed away.
Karyn listens to her friend Anne talk about her plan to adopt a baby from China after years of failing to conceive with her husband. Her thoughts idyll to her trip to the abortion clinic a few months ago after she found out she was pregnant from a one-night stand.
In the end, she felt unable to go through with the procedure and has since decided to keep the baby. She thinks about her own mother, who passed away in a car accident. She, too, carried her out of wedlock and was a single mother.
After the dinner, Anne walks Karyn back to her car. Karyn opens up to her about her pregnancy, worried that Anne would feel jealous. But her friend stops at a flower shop and buys her flowers to celebrate her becoming a mother.
