In contemporary Spain, following the death of her mother, Antje emigrates from Germany and takes a job as a hotel housekeeper. After a few years working at a Spanish hotel, she marries the hotel’s manager, Mathis, with whom she attempts to conceive a child. Continuing to work as a housekeeper, Antje suffers a miscarriage and grows distant from Mathis. While Mathis is away, Antje has a chance encounter with a previous guest of the hotel at the station; the man she meets, Felix, leads Antje on a day trip to the autonomous community of Galicia to visit a factory owned by Felix’s family. Felix and Antje have a passionate night in the city that causes Antje to have vivid hallucinations. Their night ends in a hotel room; the next morning, Antje leaves on a train back to Mathis while Felix sleeps.
