Plot Summary
Wayne drives over to his former home to see his ex-wife, Felicia, for a quickie. When he gets there, she is mid-workout, so he fools around with his WWI-era bayonet until she’s showered. They have sex, and Wayne feels a little guilty afterwards that he abandoned his wife and kids. And he feels a little disgusted by Felicia, too. He wishes he could get laid by women in Italy instead. Wayne gets a job at Ponderosa Roofing and Sheet Metal and begins a flirtationship with a woman named Pamela Forktine, who is about fifteen years his senior. They go out dancing one night, and Pamela convinces Wayne to try the “bone dance” with her—apparently all the kids do it. Wayne gets shy about this; he feels embarrassed by Pamela’s talk. Later that night, they go to Pamela’s home to have sex. She first confirms that her nineteen-year-old son Rafe isn’t around, though—a development that makes Wayne even more uncomfortable. Pamela makes two drinks and undresses a little, then performs a sex act on Wayne that he describes as “gobbling”. When he reciprocates, though, Pamela calls him “sweetie”, and Wayne begins to feel affection for her. They talk aimlessly for a while. In the morning, Wayne is conflicted about showering, and spends a long time looking at himself in the mirror. He takes the shower, gets hard, and feels that he “[is] back. The killer [is] back.”
