Plot Summary
A bartender tells of how she knew a man who was sober. The sober man's brother died while driving drunk, and the sober man takes to drinking. He is a gentle soul sober, but belligerent when drunk. The bartender tallies his drinks and laments at having to listen to the same songs played over and over again on the jukebox. The man's sister drives him home most nights, but one night she stops. The man begins to drive himself home drunk, and swerves all over the road. One night, the bartender offers to drive the man home. The two make a stop where the man's brother died and lie on the grass there. After, they go to the man's house. He gets into his bathtub and immerses himself. The two have sex. After they finish, the man puts the bartender in the bathtub full of water. The water begins to slosh around and everything begins to shake; there is an earthquake, and the bartender thinks about how everything she once thought of as solid returns to liquid form.
