Three men sit together in a bar. The sergeant, Saunders, is at a phone line trying to reach his wife who is back home in Nebraska, but all the lines are busy. His companions, Najounas and Vassi, wait for him. They begin to take notice of the women around them, and they end up disagreeing on the kind of woman they like. Vassi likes slim, 'well-proportioned' women, while Najounas wants a 'solid,' steady woman with whom he can settle down. Their disagreement continues as they wait for Sergeant Saunders to try and contact his wife again - he gets through to Nebraska, but has just missed his wife, who presumably went out to catch a movie.
Hoping to win the argument, Vassi asks Saunders what kind of woman he prefers, but he is disappointed when the sergeant replies with a declaration of love for his wife Margaret. Vassi urges him to forget 'Nebraska' while he's in the city and pay for younger company instead, but Saunders politely declines. Moved by this display of marital affection, Najounas decides to change his mind about going with Vassi to meet women; the latter is deeply angered and curses them both for fools.
Najounas and Saunders take a walk in the park once Vassi has departed, and they both silently think about Margaret back home on her porch in Nebraska.
