Plot Summary
Clara is one of seven victims of a serial rapist, and a few weeks after his arrest, she finds out that she is pregnant with his child. After years of trying for a child with her husband, Richard, she decides to keep the baby even though it drives a rift between them. Clara thrives during her pregnancy and even decides to have a natural birth, while Richard grows more distant. When she gets in a minor car crash, he drives her to an appointment with a midwife, who tells them that the baby is a boy. This is the last straw for Richard, who starts to leave the house more and more, until he moves out entirely. A few months later, Clara is two weeks past her due date, and the midwife suggests that she call Richard to induce the baby naturally. While they have sex in an attempt to trigger the birth, he cuts his finger and they have to go to the hospital, where Clara begins to have contractions. He accompanies her to the birth, but leaves to go get a camera for pictures and finds the midwife coming to assist. She insists that he help with the birth, and Richard catches the baby as it comes out, seeming to accept his role as a father.
