Sarah Jacobson comes to the house in which her grandfather, the last holocaust survivor, is dying in with her non-Jewish boyfriend. They are accosted by reporters, one of which is a holocaust denier. He has a technology in his ear which allows others to experience his memories. Inside Sarah's mother insists that she wants Sarah to marry a Jew and reveals how being the daughter of a survivor was traumatizing. Sarah goes up to say goodbye to her grandfather. Flashback to how he told her about the Holocaust first as a small child. He explains that he is worried about another Holocaust in America and that is why he wants her children to be fully Jewish so that they will know who they are and not be caught off guard by persecution. He gives her one of the memory recording devices on which he has put his memories of the Holocaust and asks her to take his place as the last witness. She has to decide whether to use it which she does, and then she goes and gets a tattoo on her arm of the same number which was forced upon her grandfather in the camps.
