Plot Summary
In an unnamed town in Peru, an American solo traveler spends his days exploring the town and observing the other gringo tourists. He despises the way the gringos fawn over local women, grabbing them and kissing them in public. The traveler is constantly thinking about abortion. He Googles at-home ways to abort a fetus, noting the dosage of the medicine and the efficacy. He spends most of his time in a local café, where he is constantly asked about his relationship status and his desire to have a girlfriend. He ends up sleeping with la jefa, the boss of the café, and they do not use a condom. La jefa _becomes pregnant. The traveler pushes for her to abort the child using medications he read about online. After trying to get an abortion through a doctor but receiving inadequate care, _la jefa _takes the pills the traveler buys for her. She bleeds for days, turning pale and sickly. The traveler takes his scheduled flight back home and leaves her. When the traveler calls _la jefa from the assumed United States, she answers him bluntly._ Una hemmorragia _caused her to go to the hospital, and "the problem" is now taken care of.
