A young couple housesits a rural home in St. Martin, France. They are poor, but they spend their days trying to work. They take care of the homeowners’ two Golden Retrievers, make small meals with the money that they get from watching over the house, learn German on quiet evenings, and entertain the homeowners’ passing group of friends. Eventually, one of the dogs is lost, and they don’t find him. They start to talk walks with two dogs, but everything else generally remains the same.
