Plot Summary
Kit is a 19-year-old woman in New York City. She and her friend, Lucy, work as prostitutes. Kit has a new client, Ned, who she’s disgusted by but continues to see. Kit goes home with Lucy and tells her about her revulsion towards Ned. As Lucy moves about her apartment and tells Kit about her life, Kit feels a deep sense of admiration towards her friend. When Kit sees Ned for the second time, he breaks down crying and reveals that his daughter is dying of leukemia. Out of the blue, Kit asks Ned if he would like to have sex with her and another woman. Ned agrees. Kit tells Lucy about Ned’s wish. She feels guilty that she has sold out her friend. Before that appointment, Kit ignores Lucy’s texts and wanders around the city. Finally, the two women meet with Ned and do their job. Back at Lucy’s apartment, something has broken between them. Kit feels that she has betrayed Lucy, using Ned to have an opportunity to have sex with her. Kit gives Lucy a long, hard stare filled with desire; Lucy pretends not to have noticed.
