Plot Summary
A young boy named Elisha is asked by his friend Simon to help pick rhubarbs on the top of a mountain close to his village. Elisha has always wanted to visit the mountain, so he excitedly agrees. As the two boys climb the mountain, Elisha notices that the air is much cleaner, the water on the mountain is much clearer than the streams by his village, and the foliage is much heather. Elisha immediately falls in love with the mountain, and when the two boys reach the top, Elisha can't stop looking to the horizon. He's never been this high up, so he's never seen what was behind the mountain. However, the sight is beautiful as he can see waterfalls, brooks, creeks, and trees. Elisha can't stop staring, and Simon has to persuade Elisha to return home. The boys return to the village with the rhubarb, but Elisha can't stop looking at the mountain. His family, as well as the town, notices the change in Elisha. Some people even begin thinking that Elisha has become possessed by the mountain. One day, Elisha disappears. Everybody believes that Elisha is on the mountain, but nobody can find him. A shepherd learns about Elisha's whereabouts as he had seen Elisha while traveling the mountain. However, the shepherd doesn't tell the villagers, claiming that the mountain would not approve. Additionally, the shepherd doesn't believe he needs to tell since Elisha told him he'd return at night. However, when nighttime falls, a light appears from the mountain in the shape of a boy. The light then forms a cross, causing the villagers to believe that Elisha has become a saint.
