Plot Summary
Patrick is a 23-year-old man from the South. He was sent by his parents to his great-aunt’s house at Harvard Square after his recent suicide attempt. He spends his days working at his dishwasher job and reading books. While waiting for his college friend, Jill, to show up at the subway station, a man named Edgar Quartz shows Patrick his portfolio of nude photography and asks Patrick if he can take his picture. Jill shows up and says no on Patrick’s behalf. After that event, Patrick can’t stop thinking about Edgar, so he shows up at his apartment and partakes in a photoshoot where Edgar has him masturbate. Patrick goes back home, and he calls his mother to assure her that he will never try to kill himself again. He says this with confidence because of the spark of happiness Edgar gave him.
