Watching The Library brought them together. They think of what it would be like to always be inseparable like this—as if they are in a tv show.
When Jeremy comes back downstairs they are still discussing the show. Talis tells Jeremy that she had a dream about him and Fox. Fox told Talis to give Jeremy her phone number. Talis forgot the number when she woke up.

Jeremy goes home and his dad, Gordon, is making a casserole. Gordon is a recreational shoplifter. He has a contract at the bookstore where he will autograph as many books as they ask if he can shoplift without consequence. His wife always goes to the store and pays for the books later.
Jeremy tries to talk to his dad. The conversation does not go anywhere. Jeremy goes to talk to his mom in the garage. She tells him that his father wrote him as a character in a story and gave him a brain tumor. Jeremy dies in the story. Because of this, she and Jeremy are going to go on a road trip to Las Vegas to sort out her great-aunt’s affairs.
Jeremy talks to his dad about the story. Gordon apologizes and expresses that he was going to save Jeremy in the story, but he kept getting sicker and sicker. He won’t let Jeremy read the story. Later, in his room, Jeremy calls a phone number that is written on a pad of paper on his desk. Someone breathes into the phone and then hangs up.
Jeremy has a dream about Fox. In his dream, he is sitting on a couch with Fox seated on either side of him. One Fox is played by Talis; the other is played by Elizabeth. They talk about being dead. Then they realize they are on TV. One Fox tells Jeremy that he has to keep calling her when he is awake.
Gordon Mars fashioned their van with couches in the back for the road trip. It reminds Jeremy of something from The Library
Jeremy tells his friends that he is leaving for a while to go on a trip with his mom. He tells Elizabeth on the roof. Elizabeth kisses him. Elizabeth tells Jeremy that Talis likes him. Jeremy calls his telephone booth every night. He vents to the silence on the other end of the line.
For his party, Jeremy dresses up as a Forbidden Book. He shows his father before the party. His father tells him he has not gotten rid of the book because he feels it is bad luck. Jeremy asks his dad not to shoplift while they are gone.
At the party, both Talis and Elizabeth arrive as Fox. Although, Talis arrives as dead Fox. Karl is Ptolemy Krill. Amy is Faithful Margaret. They watch The Library and have milkshakes. No one knows about Jeremy’s father’s book except Elizabeth. Everyone believes Jeremy is going on a fun trip with his mother and will be back by the end of the summer.
They talk about the library and wonder who the actors and writers are. They wonder where it comes from and if it is based on something true. Everyone goes to bed early except for Talis and Jeremy. Jeremy shows Talis the van. Jeremy tells her about his dream. Jeremy tells her that he has called his phone a few times and believes he is talking to Fox. Talis tells Jeremy that Fox isn’t real and that The Library is a tv show. They kiss and Jeremy pictures Elizabeth in his head.
At four AM everyone but Jeremy is asleep. He calls his phone booth. Someone who he believes to be Fox answers. She tells him that he needs to steal books from a library in Iowa and leave them in the phone booth outside of Las Vegas to save her. Jeremy agrees to do it.

A person dressed as a vampire gives him the phone. It is his friends from home. They tell him there is a new episode of The Library on and they ought to watch it together. He waits as the vampire is already flipping through the TV channels. Jeremy’s mother comes into the room with Miss Thing. Miss Thing also works at the chapel and agreed to help carry things inside. Jeremy sits down by the vampire and waits until they find the right channel so they can all find out if he saved Fox, if Fox is alive, or if Fox is dead.
