Tabitha and Amira are two women held by curses because of men.
Tabitha's curse is in sevens: seven pairs of iron shoes that she must wear down in order to break the curse and return to her bear-husband. Amira's is singular: one glass hill, one throne, one golden apple, and a lifetime of stillness until a suitor can reach her at the top. Each blames themselves for their entrapment.
On Tabitha's journey to wear the shoes down, she discovers the glass hill and climbs to the top. At the bottom of the hill, men of all trades try and fail to climb; none of them are worthy. Tabitha is. After so much loneliness, Amira is shocked when someone finally arrives at the hill's summit, and that the someone is a woman.
Tabitha stays to keep Amira company, walking circles around her throne to wear down her shoes. The two eventually trade stories with one another, and, with each other's help, realizes that the curses are not their own faults. They have the ability to escape if they decide to marry--Tabitha leaving her husband for good, and Amira finally choosing a suitor. They leave the hill together and their pasts behind.
